Why Vitamin C is Such a Popular Supplement

Vitamin C, in my opinion, is one of the most important supplements for health. It has so many applications and in this article, we’re going to explore some of the reasons why it is such a popular supplement.

Vitamin C and Immunity

The most common reason why people take Vitamin C is because they know it supports their immune system.

But I prefer to think of it as fully restoring the normal functionality of your immune system. Vitamin C doesn’t have any magic powers. Yet when your body has all the fuel it needs to work optimally, it can create impressive results.

Science has shown us that Vitamin C can enhance the differentiation and proliferation of B- and T-cells, likely due to its gene regulating effects. Whereas Vitamin C deficiency results in impaired immunity and higher susceptibility to infections…

Does Vitamin C Help With Skin Issues?

There’s a good reason why we’re seeing Vitamin C in more and more beauty products: healthy skin contains high concentrations of vitamin C, which supports the skin by stimulating collagen synthesis and assisting in antioxidant protection against UV damage. It can also help improve skin elasticity.

So can it help with skin issues? Evidence shows that Vitamin C may be helpful with dry skin, wounds, and to help prevent aging. Skin issue treatments often involve inflammation and the repair and maintenance of the skin tissue, which Vitamin C can support you with. But Vitamin C goes one step further by helping your body produce collagen. The absence of collagen can lead to the development of issues such as rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatic fever and muscle pain. This is why many people take Vitamin C, apart from the fact that the improved collagen production can help ward off derman disorders, reduce wrinkles and lines, and therefore promote a bright, flawless skin.

Is VItamin C Good For Allergies?

Acts as a natural antihistamine and antioxidant, so it can help with some allergies. It does this by reducing the amount of histamine you produce, rather than, blocking histamine receptors. It can even reduce histamine levels by 38% after 2 grams of vitamin C. A small study of 89 people with allergies or infectious diseases showed that people who received a 7.5 gram IV (intravenous) infusion of Vitamin C had about 50% less histamine in their blood. Vitamin C and Heart Support?

Vitamina C helps to promote a healthy cardiovascular system, which helps to lower blood pressure, reducing the chances of heart troubles. It also reduces iron deficiency, supporting healthy blood.

Vitamin C and Cancer

Vitamin C has been proposed as a candidate for the treatment of cancer since early studies by William J. McCormick in the 1950s. Studies show that Vitamin C suppresses the proliferation of melanoma cells. Reports show that pharmacological levels of Vitamin C selectively kill cancer cells in vitro, and lower growth rates of human tumour transplants in immunodeficient mice. In studies of vitamin C for cancer patients, 22% of the people who received vitamin C therapy survived for more than one year compared to just 0.4% of control patients. Another Japanese trial that was performed afterwards showed very similar results. The way vitamin C helps people with cancer is still unclear. Recent research shows that it may reduce levels of HIF-1, which is critical for the survival of tumours. Vitamin C may also help reduce the free radicals that HIF-1 needs to operate.
